Household Stain Removal Hacks for the Clumsy

Oops. You did it again. You forgot where your mouth was and ended up spilling all of yourself. It’s alright, we’re not here to shame you, we’re here to offer up some helpful household hacks when it comes to tackling stains 

Knowing Your Fabrics  

Before you jump the gun on removing the evidence that you still have no motor skills well into your adult life, be sure to know your fabricsCotton tends to be an easy fabric to deal with when it comes to stains while materials like wool or silk are sensitive and could react badly to your stain removal efforts. If you’re still unsure how to approach a certain fabric, try your chosen stain removal method in a discreet spot first.  

Couple of Household Hacks 

Using the following household ingredients both separately and together can help you remove a wide variety of stains. 

  • Hydrogen Peroxide 
  • Baking Soda 
  • Vinegar 
  • Dish Soap 
  • Rubbing alcohol 

Examples:  

Berries and tomato sauce  Create a solution with a 1 cup hydrogen peroxide and 1 tsp of dish soap ratioIf the stain persists dab with some vinegar. This solution works wonders on a wide variety of food stains in general! 
Yellowing  Mix baking soda with warm water, scrub on the affected area, then allow the solution to sit for a bit—watch an episode of your favorite sitcom then throw  your garment in the wash. 
Blood  For fresh stains use some hydrogen peroxide, but if it’s a dried stain turn to vinegar and let it sit before washing it normally.  

Foundation  Dab the affected area with rubbing alcohol and a cotton ball. Repeat as many times as it takes to remove the stain.  

Bonus tips: 

  • Hydrogen peroxide or baking soda can help you whiten your whites. 
  • Adding a cup or so of vinegar to a load of stinky laundry helps to cancel out the smell.  

Hopefully you feel more prepared to handle whatever life throws at you…or whatever you accidentally throw at yourself. Now if only we could find some hacks for embarrassment removal.
